Kibale Forest National Park

Kibale Forest National Park, is renowned as the best place for chimpanzee trekking in Uganda. It boasts the highest number of primate species in any Ugandan park, with thirteen species recorded, including several species of monkeys that can often be spotted during forest walks. The park is also home to an abundance of birds and butterflies, making it a true paradise for nature enthusiasts.

Overview

This tropical haven in southwestern Uganda is famous for its large chimpanzee populations, including the famous Ngogo troop. Kibale’s lush rainforests provide the perfect backdrop for chimpanzee trekking, where visitors can observe these incredible primates in their natural habitat.

Kibale is one of the best places in Africa to observe multiple primate species. In addition to chimpanzees, visitors may encounter vervet monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys, blue monkeys, black-and-white colobus monkeys, and olive baboons. While lions, elephants, and buffalo also inhabit the park, they are more elusive. Kibale supports a variety of habitats across different altitude zones, from tropical forests on the Fort Portal plateau to savannahs in the Albertine Valley. Its pristine forest is home to towering hardwoods, such as mahogany and figs.
